In 2023, a stark reality unfolded as almost 700 million people worldwide were subsisting on less than $2.15 per day, highlighting the pervasive challenges of poverty. The aftermath of the pandemic further exacerbated these difficulties, intensifying economic disparities and underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive and sustainable solutions to address the impacts on vulnerable populations.
The Himalayan regions faced an even more alarming predicament, with individuals struggling to survive on a meager 50 cents per day. This distressing circumstance has been further exacerbated by the aftermath of the pandemic, amplifying economic challenges and pushing them a staggering 77.91% below the suggested poverty line set by the UN.
The glaring percentage difference accentuates the urgent need for targeted interventions to uplift the Himalayan communities grappling with extreme economic hardships.
It's crucial to note that children have been disproportionately affected, bearing the brunt of these economic hardships in an area where child poverty is already at its highest.
